Monday Morning News: Busy Week Ahead

Did you know today, Aug. 20, is National Radio Day? It is! According to the FCC, the first program of speech and music didn’t take place until 1906. Detroit was the first city to use radio-equipped emergency vehicles in 1921. Motorola’s Martin Cooper is credited with the invention of the first handheld cellular telephone, which appeared in 1973. And in October of 2001, Apple announced their new “iPod.” The rest is, well, history.

On Friday, 17 Popular Community Bank employees spent time helping a great mission outside Chicago, Feed My Starving Children. If you didn’t read about it on Friday, click here for more details.

These photos from Friday’s event show the packing tables, which were set up in a hanger at Priester Aviation, and two Popular Community Bank employees that volunteered to help the effort.

This is a busy week at Popular Community Bank. Here are a few of the events on our calendar this week.

On Wednesday, Aug. 22, our Commerce (CA) branch is hosting a retirement planning seminar. If you have questions about how much money it will take for you to stop working someday, and how to get there, this is a great free event for you!

Also on Wednesday, we are proud to be a sponsor of the Norwegian American Hospital’s Pediatric Care-A-Van spending some time at Youth Service Project  in Chicago. The care-a-van will be offering free services including required immunizations, school physicals, vision and hearing screenings and asthma assessments. This is a great opportunity to get ready for the new school year. The event is from 9 AM to 2 PM, and is open to children ages newborn to 21.

On Friday, Aug. 24, we’re hosting two great, free events for seniors in New York. Starting at 10 AM our branch on Dyckman St. will be answering basic banking questions for seniors. From 4-5 PM at the same branch, there will be a seminar discussing direct deposit for seniors. Both of these events request an RSVP, so please click on the links for more information.

This weekend (Friday afternoon and Saturday), we’ll have representatives at the Festival Azteca in Maywood (IL) answering all of your banking questions. We will have representatives at the festival from 4-8 PM on Friday and from noon to 6 PM on Saturday. We hope to see you there!

Finally, in case you missed it this weekend, we’re giving away coffee! All you have to do is answer five quick questions, and we’ll hook you up. This is only open until noon ET on Tuesday (tomorrow), so take a minute to check it out if you haven’t already.
