This weekend, one Popular Community Bank employee will battle waves and wind while doing his part to fight cancer.
Brian Brennan will participate for the third time in the Leukemia Cup Regatta in Chicago on Aug. 25 at Columbia Yacht Club in Chicago.
Brennan has been a member of a team that races yachts on Lake Michigan for the last four years in his free time. He said the team competes in three three races each year, but a few years ago they added the Leukemia Cup Regatta. One of Brennan’s teammates asked him to join his crew on another boat for the Regatta. Because of the organization the Regatta supports, and Brennan’s love for the sport, he’s volunteered every year since.
Annually, events held are held at between 20-30 yacht clubs across North America are held to raise money for LLS. Skippers register their boats and recruit friends and colleagues to help crew and to raise funds; crew members seek donations from friends, family, co-workers and employers to sponsor their boat. National and local event sponsors also support Regatta.
This year, there will be nearly 50 events held all over the United States, including three based in Chicago. This weekend’s event is the third and final event in Chicago for 2012.
