How will you be celebrating this year’s Fourth of July?
Will you be driving somewhere this year? Fueled (literally) by lower gas prices, AAA estimates that 42.3 million Americans will drive at least 50 miles from home for the mid-week holiday. That number indicates a 4.9 percent increase from last year. Over the long weekend, the travel company believes this year’s celebration will see the highest travel volume since 2007.
When you reach your destination, what will you be doing? Odds are you’ll be eating. BIGresearch’s annual survey found that 67.6 percent of Americans plan on attending a cookout/barbeque this summer, which is nearly 20 percent higher than the number of folks planning on attending a fireworks show (48.5).
Will you wear something patriotic? The same survey found that over 46 percent of Americans said someone in their family owned patriotic apparel. Better than one-third of those responding said they owned appropriate decorations, while better than 64 percent said they owned an American flag.
If you don’t already own anything with the stars and stripes on it already, don’t feel bad; 16.2 percent of Americans will buy something new that bears a patriotic theme before the Fourth of July this year.
However you choose to celebrate this year, please be safe. From all of us at Popular Community Bank, Happy Fourth!
